Your tag is wrong

A lot of people believe the tag states “public hubs/private hubs/hubs where the person is operator in”. This is wrong. The correct is “hubs where the person is not registered in/hubs where the user is registered in, but has no ‘key’/hubs where the user is registered in and has a ‘key'”. Please, if you are an operator and have power to kick (and ban perhaps), do not assume what I wrote in the first line. There is no way to validate if a user is in a private or public hub. Although while most hubs where you’re not registered in are infact public, that doesn’t mean you can use it to validate if people are in public hubs or not. If you can’t do it properly, don’t do it at all.
Although your tag may show that you’re in x amount of hubs, this number can be misleading. If you are kicked (or banned, some thing – the timeperiod is different) or if you get redirected to a hub while you aren’t following redirects or if the connection between you and the hub is cut off, your tag will be wrong.
Try it yourself. Go into a hub. Kill the connection using TCPview and look at your tag. It will still show you as connected while you aren’t. If you close the hubwindow down, the tag will be correct again.

One Response to Your tag is wrong

    From the old blog:
Where would you get the silly idea that IE (or any other external program) would affect the tag?

And the bug you are talking about is mentioned here:

If you re-read my post, you will see that I’m just stating the bug that’s mentioned here:

DC++ 0.6811 had been working fine.

It looks like the IE7beta install affects tag display in 0.6811.
I am shown as OP with a key but the tag does not show correctly. I should be 0/2/3, s5 but it comes up 0/5/0, s5
Droping back to 0.674 works correctly, and the tags display correct.
Removing IE7, reboots etc. had no effect. I did get file lists and did not try for a transfer.
I am reinstalling 0.6811 and the optional components.
